Digital Scanning Sonar for Fish Feeding Monitoring in Aquaculture
نویسندگان
چکیده
Feed waste results in increased production costs to the cage fish farming industry and produces negative environmental impacts. A computerized system, consisting of digital scanning sonar and current meter, was developed for monitoring, assessment, and optimization of the fish feeding process. The system can detect and monitor quantity and direction of wasted food pellets and also predict the trajectory of pellets through the water column. Pellets detected and tracked by digital sonar provide feedback information to the feeding operator and provide guidance on how to redirect or modify the feeding process in order to minimize feed waste. Digital scanning sonar is user friendly and cost effective. It can be integrated as a major component of automated or semi-automated feeding systems on aquaculture farms. The system performed well and successfully enumerated individual pellets under the aquaculture cages. Presence of high concentrations of non-farmed fish outside of the cages resulted in the degradation of the ability to successfully detect and count waste pellets. Refinement of techniques and detection and filtering algorithms is necessary consistently detect waste pellets in the presence of unwanted fish echoes.

Ornamental fish farming, like other aquaculture productions, it depends on the quality and quantity of egg production, hatching, fecundity and survival of the larvae. In general, every step of aquaculture, followed by nutritional goals. Most of these studies are in the stages of larval growth. Because the highest costs are imposed on aquaculture and the most critical biological period of orname...
متن کاملDesign and Deployment of Low-Cost Sensors for Monitoring the Water Quality and Fish Behavior in Aquaculture Tanks during the Feeding Process
The monitoring of farming processes can optimize the use of resources and improve its sustainability and profitability. In fish farms, the water quality, tank environment, and fish behavior must be monitored. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are a promising option to perform this monitoring. Nevertheless, its high cost is slowing the expansion of its use. In this paper, we propose a set of senso...

Influence of three different stocking densities, vitamin C supplementation of Daphnia spp. and feeding practice (i.e. mechanical, hand) on the success of dry feed habituation of pond reared pikeperch juveniles was investigated through one month trial. Pond reared pikeperch juveniles were harvested 42 days post-fertilisation (mean individual weight 1.1 ± 0.3g) and stocked into the experimental r...

Fish wastes management has become a global problem from the last years. Dispose of seafood wastes cause environmental pollution. To overcome this issue these unwanted seafood products are used for the formation of animal feed and aquaculture feed. These unwanted products include small fish and those parts of fish which are not used as human food. These unwanted parts include viscera, head, fins...
